N: "Mom, can I go out with my boyfriend tomorrow afternoon?'
Me: "No honey, it is snowing and you are both new drivers, I don't want you out in the snow.'
Fast forward to next day - no snow, no school and two bored kids
O: 'Mom, can I go hang out with my friends.'
On a call with my COO and trying to shoo my daughter away. I put my hand on my phone mouthpiece and whisper "Ask your dad."
O: "He will never say yes." she cries in dismay.
I shrug my shoulders and go back to my call.
3 minutes later
O: "Mom, dad said yes and he will drop me in the next 10 minutes."
Trying to keep track of this highly complex conversation with my COO, I nod my head and shoo her off the second time.
5 minutes later
N: "So I hear O is going to her friend's house. This is highly unfair etc. etc."
At this point, I am ready to pull out my hair as I argue my point and completely loose track of my thoughts.
Me on phone: "Umm I agree, umm but ......" and then a long silence. No one knows what I just agreed or disagreed to, including me.
Me wanting to say to N: "I don't know honey, this mothering thing doesn't come with a manual. Nobody said that giving/asking permission would be such a headache or that your dad and I would have to have closed door conversations before we agree to move a muscle in this house."
Me to N: "What time will you come home?"
