Ever wondered if you live in your version of ground hog day? I do.
My day begins with wake up, empty the damn dishwasher, get kids off to school, walk the dog while kids are waiting for the bus, do yoga, work the day away, cart kids around for after school activities, dinner and off to bed you go. Oh and if you are really lucky you get to squeeze in 1 hour of time with the TV to watch your favorite show, that you've been waiting for (what feels like) a year to watch..... hoorah! It's like that treat that I give myself (like my dog) for being efficient with my day. Good girl!
It's a good thing that with the online streaming platform you have the whole season on demand. Imagine if like old times you would have to wait for a week for the next episode to drop. I'd be dead and gone before I'd get to the next stage in the plot.
The following day rinse, lather, repeat.
Then ofcoarse there are minor wrenches here and there. Like today, my dog absolutely refused to go do his business while O was waiting for her bus. Seriously?! My perfectly orchestrated life doesn't know where to fit him in if he is off the schedule. It throws my entire day in a tizzy. Really Duke, don't you know you need to stick to the plan here! Now when I'm in the middle of my work schedule trying to fight off yet another issue Dukey will be whining at the door itching to go out. Or worse, if I ignore him, we all know what happens. A bigger mess for me to deal with. I wonder, who the real master is here.
Or like yesterday when I spent half my morning looking for my bloody pink shoes. Yes PINK, don't judge me here! My younger daughter had to skip breakfast, my older daughter didn't get her coffee on schedule. A long painful winding MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM echoed through the hallways of my house because the travel mug with her magic brew was empty. I think I even saw a sleepy little head peek out of my neighbors house. She almost missed her bus for God's sake! I probably shouldn't tell them where I eventually found them - under my office desk, which I'm sure I looked through 5 times.
Sure, the list of all these minor distractions is bottomless, but maybe they are the ones adding flavor (or is it stress) to your otherwise perfectly orchestrated scheduled life.
We wait for the weekend for that break, however enterprising parents like us fill it up with kids activities to ensure our kids are stimulated enough! But what about the over stimulated parents?! Is it really a break or is it just two days with a different timetable?
It makes me really wonder, if the entire reason for having festivals was to mix it up a little. Something to break the monotony. Diwali or Holi, or Eid or Christmas or Rosh Hashanah - it's time to drop what you are doing join your family, feel grateful, buy new attire, eat sweets and make merry. You spread them out during different times of the year and voila you have put enough change in your schedule to make it feel different! Is that why people look forward to those occasions with such zest? Or is it yet another distraction to overcome to get back to your balance beam routine? I wonder.........
